Bags

iPad bags are fine for taking your tablet around during travel.  If you absolutely can't use it without a Bluetooth keyboard in tow, though, your choices in iPad-specific bags suddenly dwindle down to a small number.  The Waterfield iPad Wallet should count among your remaining options.

Designed as a two-in-one travel case, the container has separate internal pockets for an iPad and an Apple wireless keyboard, respectively.  Both compartments are lightly-padded with non-scratch surfaces, ensuring your devices remain free from any nicks and scrapes.

The Waterfield iPad Wallet measures 12 x 9 x 1.5 inches and features impact-resistant inserts along the body for protection from bumps.  A self-locking YKK zipper ensures your gear stays shut in, while a stretchable pocket around the back lets you carry other gear, such as chargers, styluses and miniature flame throwers (hey, some of you may be into that).

It comes in a choice of six colors (black, copper, flame, green, pearl and pine), with distressed brown leather sides.  You can also choose to have the bag installed with D-rings (in case you have a spare strap at home) or request it be shipped with an accompanying strap.  Both options cost extra, of course.

Currently on pre-order with an October 31 shipping date for the initial run, the Waterfield iPad Wallet is available for $79.

Do you prefer utility over style?  You may want to try the Nimbus Tote, an iPad carrier  that looks almost like  a laptop bag.

Made from 100% polyester and designed like a carrying bag that comes free when you buy a new notebook, it's far from the kind of jackets we normally see iPads slipping into.  Functionally, though, it seems really sound, although it does add more bulk than what you'll normally need for a tablet with a 9.7-inch screen.

The Nimbus Tote comes with two zippered compartments and a clear iPad pocket on the front side.   Made with clear vinyl film, the iPad  area allows for functional use of the tablet, complete with UV protection.  Hook and loop closures on both sides allow you access to ports.  If you want the iPad better protected (such as during travel), you can store it on one of the zippered slots instead.

Bag measures 9.5 x 13 x 4 inches and comes with a detachable strap.  The website offers some suggestions on how to use it.  Like we said, it seems really functional, but rather clunky.  There's no way you're looking sleek with this thing in tow, so it's best reserved for those occasions when you'll be carrying an iPad along with a host of other items (such as books, a change of clothes or other gadgets).

Two variations of the Nimbus Tote are available -- with flap and without flap.    The former retails for $54.95, while the latter goes for $49.95.

If conventional iPad bags aren't much to your liking, you might enjoy this stylish take from Molla Space.  Called the Envelope Bag, it wears a look that resembles old-school, traditional kraft paper envelopes.

Equipped with a button and tie gummed flap, it seems better suited to hold a stack of documents than a mass of modern gadgets.  While it appears to be made of paper, it's actually cut from synthetic leather, so it should hold an iPad and the rest of your gear without busting at the bottom.

Designed by Megawing, the Envelope Bag measures 9.8 x 13.4 inches, with a flat design that makes it ultra-convenient to take around.  It can be used like a real envelope too, clutched in your hand or tucked under your arm.  Heck, you can stack it on your desk if you have more than one.

The bag comes with an adjustable and detachable strap, so you can hang it across your body like a satchel.  Since you'll obviously need to carry more than the iPad when you go out, it includes an inset pocket with multiple pouches for your phones, pens, keys and other small accessories.

Molla Space's Envelope Bag is available from their website for $60.

Looking to ditch the clutch bag for something that will fit in your new iPad?  Wrap your hands around the Clutch, a spacious organizer for your carry-on gear that can handily replace your favorite clutch bag.

Put your iPad on the main slot  with the clear front panel and the rest of your accessories on the three separate compartments on the other side.  There's a zippered area for your cash and valuables, pouches for your phone and credit cards, and extra space for even more of your haul, whether you want to carry lip gloss, pepper spray or a crazy-ass switchblade knife.

Designed for the ladies, the Clutch comes with stylish pleats that help it look more like a bag than a regular case.  A large zipper shuts the three compartments close  and a strap secures the two flaps, so you can carry it without worrying about any of your accessories falling off.

Unlike other cases with extra compartments, you can use it to sit your iPad upright (for viewing or typing)  without the need for any extra accessory.  All iPad ports and controls are easily accessible too, with cutouts built into the main compartment.

The Clutch is available in red and black, priced at $89.99.

Boa Push, A Stylish Bag For Your iPad

by Noel on August 24, 2010

Why carry your iPad in a sleeve that goes in a bag when you can have a stylish off-the-shoulder accessory dedicated to your beloved slate?  Ditch the laptop-sized backpack for the Boa Push, a slim and minimal bag designed to hold an iPad and a few choice accessories.

Sized just enough to fit the game-changing slate, the main compartment consists entirely of a space just enough to fit an iPad in.  We guess you can throw in a few sheets of paper in too, in case you really need them, but that's it.  For the rest of your assembly, there's a full-width pocket around the back for office documents or a moleskine notebook (you, hipster, you), a front patch pocket for your phone and a few small pockets right outside the main area (for your wires, pens and sausage styluses).

The Boa Push is made from Twylon and genuine Nappa leather, making for an accessory as stylish as it is functional.  A snap button closure locks the flap in place, while you hang it over your shoulder with a wide seatbelt-webbing nylon strap (which is, arguably, the smoothest strap material there probably is).

Just to raise the exclusivity stakes a bit, Booq Bags is tagging each piece with a  gunmetal-framed Terralinq serial number.   Register the number once you get it and you get access to the Terralinq service, which helps reunite lost bags with their rightful owners (hopefully, with the iPad still in tow).

Seriously, I don't think I've seen a made-for-iPad bag this nice-looking yet.  The Boa Push is available in either gray or sand for $89.95.

First things first,  I don't think M-Edge set out trying to attract any men with this one. With the Destination Bag looking a lot like a female carrying purse, you know exactly who it's for. That surely does not bring anything negative to the table about this case because this is by far one of the best iPad carrying bags women will be able to find. Featuring vibrant colors like green, purple, red, black, brown, and brown/cream, there is sure to be a selection for anyone's color preference. M-Edge really went over the top with this one and it's a wonder they thought of it. Initially seeing this case out of its packaging I was amazed by the true quality that it brought forth. You know that popular designer purses that are out there like the Coach Purse and such, well this Destination Bag definitely competes on their level while bringing the functionality of an iPad carrying case.

With a convenient shoulder strap to help you reduce the weight of your luggage in case you are housing some heavy accessories inside with your iPad, the Destination Bag just about has it all. Surely it is one of the most elegant and user friendly ways to carry your iPad. What we like best is that you can turn your iPad carrying case into a fully fledged purse with this one. For women who don't want to carry around their purse and their iPad case, because I don't know who would, M-Edge designed this bag so that you can stash any of your belongings inside to provide easy accessibility and more functionality.

Inside of the case are two elastic pockets that can store anything you may wish but most importantly they are perfectly suited for iPad accessories. In the interior, you will also find a zipper sleeve made just to house your iPad. This way, if you have makeup or other materials inside your case that you wouldn't want to be rubbed off onto your iPad, you know that it's safe inside its sleeve. For smooth access to your items the Destination Bag opens through a specially designed zipper that's easy to use. The M-Edge Destination Bag is really one of the more appealing bags on the market. I couldn't see someone who was striving to find looks as well as the best in functionality looking at any other bag.

Having the luxury of being able to throw all of your possessions, gadgets and iPhone into the very case that houses your iPad is truly just practical and awesome. For those of you who like to travel and need something more lucrative that can provide more to you than just a traditional iPad case, than Cocoon Innovations is probably going to be your iPad bag of choice. Cocoon Innovations has brought forth multiple varieties of backpack type designs that serve as iPad cases. If the Gramercy isn't something that appeals to you, they are sure to have a more suitable option that you will enjoy. With a very soft and comforting color gray, the Gramercy looks like a very nice, portable, and easily accessible kind of bag case.

Cocoon Innovations focused in on a number of different aspects with this one. They wanted to make sure they addressed the concerns and features that everyone wanted to see implemented into a case of this kind. The Gramercy provides an adjustable shoulder strap so that if you've got some items added into the mix inside your bag, you can easily haul them on your shoulder and it's fit for any sized body. Making the bag as lightweight as possible to cut down on the amount of strain that will be placed on your hand or shoulder, the Gramercy is already looking like a prime candidate. It features a more compact and slim design than others of its kind and looks a lot like a messenger style design.

In case the huge inner pocket hasn't provided the room you were looking for, the Gramercy has also provided a front pocket that is perfect for housing your headphones or accessories while on the move. If you were to place your iPad here, suddenly the case would provide a fully functional compartment in which protects your iPad while allowing it to be used through the case. The touch screen will still operate 100% of its ability and no sensitivity issues or response rate problems should occur. If you are an outdoorsy person and perhaps like to go jogging, hiking, or camping, than the Gramercy is going to be perfectly suited for you. We found it to be one of the best in its class for activities which are going to require more demand in the luggage you're carrying around. It look like a great combination of functionality, decorative design, and reliability. Priced at $30 we were completely blown away by the kind of quality you are getting with this one. This messenger sling definitely looks like well worth the price.

Definitely one of the heavy duty cases on the market, the Booq Taipan iPad Bag was designed to accommodate your gadget carrying needs in every way possible. It appears slightly larger than traditional iPad bags in pictures but the Booq Taipan was designed with appearance in mind and has been slimmed down to a compact and discrete form. Don't be fooled though because even with interior pockets as well as exterior pockets it still provides a miraculously roomy and lightweight experience. Making it as aesthetically pleasing as possible didn't serve to be much of a challenge, it's surely one of the better looking iPad bags we have seen. It's available in black and likely will be released with some other colors like dark blue or brown. Most importantly this bag features the best in highly functional design aspects. Inside, you'll find a heavily padded iPad compartment that safely and securely protects your iPad. It also provides distinguishable areas for the accessories of your iPad. This includes your power adapter and anything else you may have purchased.

Like all carrying cases, it's design for your on the go use but yet still captures everything you need into  a physically pleasing and sleek design for your iPad. It has two carrying handles that are conveniently tucked away to help hide any additional bulk that they might provide to the case. The shoulder strap for carrying your case on your shoulder to help reduce the weight on your items is easily removed and is made from high quality nylon like whats featured ins eat belts. With two means for carrying your case you're destined to find one that suits your needs. This is one of the most well protected cases for your iPad you will find. It's got all the added padding you could dream for. In case you're a frequent flier, your bag even has a serial number to help you recover your lost luggage. Not to mention it's going to completely hide the identity of your iPad, steering you clear of becoming a victim of theft. On the exterior you'll find its coated with a dense water resistant fabric to help rebel spills or dirt and adds another layer of protection.

The Taipan Slim Bag from Booq is available for about $69.95. The price is a bit on the higher side but it looks like a solid investment. Highly protectant, extremely functional and designed with appearance in mind, it is definitely a case to recommend.
