Remember that gorgeous Drawcase for iPad from months back? Well, the thing is finally on sale now, complete with a new, more functional design.
Back when the design was first shown off, the biggest selling point was the sheer beauty of the CNC machined aluminum case, apart from offering hard-nosed protection when your tablet's not in use. When you need to work with your device, though, you'll have to pull it out of the protective shell, leaving it open to any and all risks that handling a shiny, slippery device creates.
The new Drawcase changes that, allowing you to use the iPad with half the body still housed in the case. Just take the lid off to allow access to the screen, along with all ports and controls via cutouts. That means, you now get the same block of 6061 aluminum protecting your slate from scratches, impacts and drops while you put it to work.
As with the original design, it's still machined from a block of durable aluminum and treated in a variety of anodized finishes. A protective foam layer sits between the iPad and the metal, while the lid is kept shut by magnets, leaving the tablet fully enclosed when not in use. It measures 208 x 273 x 28.5 mm and weighs 850 grams.
The Drawcase is on sale now at the following prices, depending on currency: $200 USD/ £130 GBP/ €150 EUR. Five anodized colors are available, namely clear anodized aluminum, anodized black / clear aluminum, anodized green / clear aluminum, anodized blue / clear aluminum, and anodized pink / clear aluminum.

One of the iPad accessories we've really been looking forward to is the drawCase, an aluminum slip-on shell designed to protect the tablet during transit. First time we saw them, we imagined they'll be perfect for keeping the device protected during travel.
Shaped like a giant Zippo lighter, it's meant as a durable container for safekeeping the iPad. You'll need to remove your slate from the case to use, then insert it back in when hitting the road.

The drawCase is machined from a solid block of recycled aircraft-grade aluminum, with a removable top cover sealed shut by light magnets. Interior is lined with a protective foam to help absorb bumps from regular use.
Aside from the durable protection, the case's main strength is the sleek design, punctuated by the colorful anodized finish. Slim and stylish, it's as pretty an iPad accessory as we’ve ever seen.
Unfortunately, the UK-based Draw (makers of the drawCase) are currently having manufacturing issues, leading to delays in the accessory's expected release. Unless it's priced bordering on ridiculous, though, I'm almost sure I'll be getting one when it does come out.
